Is our era both the most wondrous and the most horrific time ever to be alive in the history of the human race?
Award-winning travel journalist Lee Foster thinks so. His audiobook, Travels in an American Imagination The Spiritual Geography of Our Time consists of 25 essays, in which Foster evokes a place in his worldwide travels and then addresses the spiritual geography of our era.
Foster's work has won eight Lowell Thomas Awards, the highest accolades in travel writing, including him being named Travel Journalist of the Year (Silver Winner). More than 200 of his worldwide coverages can be seen at fostertravel.com.
Foster suggests that a balanced perception of modern life, with sufficient imagination, can enable a modern person to live in a healthy, constructive manner and not be overwhelmed by pessimism or despair.
Modern life is defined by the constant media or actual-life barrage of polar positive and negative experiences on the average informed person. Those seeking an inner peace need to balance these assaults on their sensibilities through a deeper understanding of the current human drama.
Foster views modern life with an unflinching clarity. For example, in his chapter "Brazil The Decline of the Environment," he describes the experience of walking in a perishing rain forest with its irreversible loss of species. Yet Foster balances this encounter with the wondrous, as in "Canaveral The Adventure of Space Flight," in which he celebrates that we put a man on the moon, no small feat, in his lifetime.

I have read Lee Foster's "Travels in an American Imagination: The Spiritual Geography of our Time" twice because each chapter has a new variation on the state of the world we live in and the attitudes we have or could develop. Foster is a very talented writer. Many years ago he completed a Master's degree in Creative Writing and just went on from there to write prolifically. One matter that I particularly like is that Foster is capable of succinctly presenting his varied writing in a most literate way. Foster has traveled the world. He has years of experience perfecting his photography skills; and, his photo presentations are really fabulous. I like to stay up-to-date with his work by visiting his web site [...]. Here I can review his past work as well as the present. This is an author to watch.Product details

Travels in an American Imagination The Spiritual Geography of Our Time (Audible Audio Edition) Lee Foster William Dougan Foster Travel Publishing Books Reviews
Lee Foster is basically an optimist even though he has a clear-eyed view of the challenges facing us all. His writing style is refreshing and easy to read. This book is a must-have. It is perfect for reading groups and will stimulate many stirring discussions.
Excellent book! I love how Foster uses geography to touch on his own personal journey. Great audiobook, too!
I found this to be a poignant book. The book is written by a travel writter and photographer sharing his perspectives on human life through stories told from travels to world sites such as the Terracotta warriors in China or the pyramids of Egypt. I really enjoyed this book, it was a fast and thought-provoking read.
What a pleasure! Insightful and with an open heart. A mix of travel and personal reflection. Life past, present and future. Especially liked Minneapolis A Sense of Place. Enjoyed the humor about love in the 21st century and simple pleasures of good food and wine. Written in a voice that is clear and pure Lee Foster. More than once I found myself smiling and nodding in agreement. I will definitely read this again.
